The burdens of environmental problems often disproportionately affect communities of people of color. I am committed to supporting not just the environment, but environmental justice efforts through Sunny Get Up. Sunny Get UP donates 50% of net profits to environmental charities, including charities that are actively working towards environmental justice for BIPOC communities.

We Act for Environmental Justice

Your purchase will help fund the important work of WE ACT for Environmental Justice, a Northern Manhattan membership-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to build healthy communities by ensuring that people of color and/or low-income residents participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices. Founded in 1988, WE ACT has offices in New York City and Washington, D.C.

Committed to Social & Environmental Responsibility Throughout the Whole Supply Chain

Sunny Get Up is committed to social and environmental responsibility throughout the whole supply chain, and selected a printing partner who is committed to fair and ethical treatment for garment workers. To pledge their support to the Black Lives Matter movement, our printing partner committed to donating $20,000 to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).

Our printing partner values and celebrates people for who they are and they are committed to creating a work environment that is safe and welcoming for people of all backgrounds. They encourage both personal and professional growth and are keen on learning and supporting one another, regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, and other characteristics. Fabrics are sourced from ethical suppliers that comply to labor, environmental, and safety standards. Fulfillment centers are located in LA, Charlotte, Mexico, and Riga, and each team member enjoys paid time off, healthcare benefits, and a safe and friendly work environment.

Inclusive Community Spotlight

Sunny Get Up recognizes and embraces human diversity. I am committed to equity and inclusivity, and want to use this platform to help highlight a diverse range of voices and lived experiences.

Sunny Get Up is just starting out, and I’m very thankful for my dear friends who modeled yoga pants for this website to help get me started. They are committed allies to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Ariel Xu and Kristen Boccumini are my fellow co-owners of Yoga Lab Studio, and we continue to brainstorm how Yoga lab can be an active ally in this movement. For instance, Katie Travis taught a “Yoga for a Cause” class series at Yoga lab every Sunday in June to raise funds for Black Visions Collective. Rhonda Magee’s book, “The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness” is also a key influence in my own yoga teaching. I regularly highlight her concepts of foundations of racial justice in my Strong Foundations class at Yoga Lab, and our studio also held a book club to discuss her work. Lara Heimann and 25 other LYT teachers from around the world also came together to support the Black Lives Matter movement, raising $16,400 for various causes committed to supporting and empowering the Black community and actualizing change.

I do recognize though that by using myself and my own small social circle as models, the diversity in modeling on this site is still limited. If you identify as BIPOC, I especially want to encourage you to share your story through our Community Spotlight to be highlighted on this platform.  Black lives matter, and I would like to use the privileged position of this platform to amplify the important work already being done by our amazing diverse community of optimistic activists. I would love to expand the representation on Sunny Get Up’s platform, highlight your work, and get to know YOU!

Black Lives Matter, and Sunny Get Up will get up and stand with you.
